The 2006 Dodge Charger
- The most famous name in Dodge muscle cars roars into the 21st century
made famous by the General Lee from the Dukes of Hazzard hit tv series
is back and reincarnated to a modern day icon. Combining legendary performance
and state-of-the-art technology, the Charger with its road-gripping suspension,
athletic rear-wheel-drive handling and available HEMI power, Charger is
a celebration on wheels the return of renowned Dodge street muscle.
Dodge has taken a good bit of heat for applying the venerated Charger nameplate to a four-door sedan, but this particular sedan may just have the swagger and cojones to pull it off. Practically every part of this new sedan that you can't see is shared with its LX platform siblings, the Magnum wagon and our car of the year, the Chrysler 300 sedan. On the exterior, only the windshield is shared. And like the 300 and Magnum, this Charger looks better in person than it does in pictures. The headlights sneer just like a Viper's, and along with the chrome cross-hair grille, they appear to lunge forward as if poised to head-butt a docile Camry or Accord out of the fast lane. A steeply raked rear window like that found on its Intrepid predecessor conspires with sloping rear side glass to lend a distinctive coupe-like appearance, while preserving reasonable rear seat headroom. Engine choices range from the Magnum's 3.5-liter V-6 on up through the 6.1-liter SRT8 Hemi V-8. The 2006 Charger shows just how ecclectic and accomplished today's high performance muscle cars are compared to the uni-dimensional hot rods of the past. The Charger has all the pavement-ripping, gut-thumping power of the old muscle cars, but is packaged with modern creature comforts and tempered by startling levels of handling competency. Put another way, it rides, turns and stops as well as it goes. Although the orginal
Dodge Charger was a two door coupe, the modern version is a four door
sedan yet sporty as and muscle car can be. Functional performance is at
the heart of the SRT credo. To that end, an all-new front fascia includes
integrated ducts that help direct fresh air to cool the brakes. The front
fascia also incorporates an air dam to reduce lift. The hood is equipped
with a scoop to funnel cool air into the engine compartment. The rear
fascia features integrated lower strakes to direct air flow and aggressive
cutouts to accommodate dual 3.5-inch exhaust tips. A dramatic decklid
spoiler set on dual stanchions increases downforce for high-speed stability
and traction. The limited edition SRT8 encompasses the complete focus of Dodge's SRT goals: To provide top of the line amenities with the most amount of availible horsepower. The exterior of the SRT8 is equally as stunning as the engine, with a ram air induction hood bringing it back to the muscle car era with a modern touch of class. As with all cars, there will be some lag time before tuning and exterior styling accessories will be availible for the 2006 Charger. But with the new design, the Charger will be sure to take charge and move to the front as the premier vehicle in the modern muscle car community. With the demand that this car is slated to achieve, accessories will soon be hitting the market. Please bookmark this page for tuning updates on the 2006 Dodge Charger.
