In 2006 we are glad to see a newly designed Lexus IS, now known as the Lexus IS 350. The IS350 has been extensively redesigned and reworked to bring the popluar sport compact closer to its other Lexus counterparts by being more luxury oriented as well as keeping its popularity with the sport compact tuning community. The original Lexus IS 300 blazed new territory in that market by bringing a stock vehicle with tuner accessories such as clear tail lamps, sport shifiting, rally pedals and other racy amenities. The new Lexus IS350 is much more sophisticated looking with race bred technology and cutting edge sophistication.

The all new IS 350 is the Lexus entry-luxury sedan, and the IS is designed to attract the eyes of youth - those who are young and those who think they are. This is a car for people who can't afford a GS, or want a more sporty driving experience. As such, performance and style is at a premium, and the new 2006 Lexus IS 250 and IS 350 should deliver both in spades. Along with its stunning new design - courtesy of the Lexus LF-A design language and concept supercar introduced at the 2005 North American International Auto Show - the IS will offer a driving experience centered on feel and fun. All told, the IS will be available in four trims: the IS 250 and IS 350 with either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. The difference between the IS 250 and the IS 350 is largely power, with a more robust engine - a V6 displacing 3.5-liters - offered in the IS 350.

Exterior styling is very much in the vein of the new GS. Lexus calls this design theme "L-Finesse," a philosophy with three fundamental elements: purity, elegance, and anticipation. With a wheelbase that's more than two inches longer and a body that's three inches wider and 3.5 inches longer overall than the outgoing IS, the new car has a much roomier interior, especially in the rear seat. The original IS interior was more weird than elegant, but the new car's cabin is as well-crafted, modern, and luxurious as you would expect from Lexus. Highlights include an input port for your iPod, optional Mark Levinson audio, a navigation system with a rear-view camera, and a total of ten air bags. Other safety equipment includes available swiveling Xenon headlights, radar-sensed, pre-crash seatbelt tensioners, and Lexus's advanced stability control system.

The biggest difference between the previous Lexus IS and the new IS 350 is that there is an availible all wheel drive version (also availible on the IS 250). This puts the IS350 in contention with other cars that have the same technology such as the Audi A4 and new all wheel drive G35. In addition to that, the new IS 350 also sports a nifty paddle style shifting system made popular by late model Ferrari vehicles. We are certain the IS 350 will remain true to its roots yet still bring it closer to its other Lexus counterparts in the luxury department.
