2007 Saturn Sky Click Here To See Saturn Sky Picture Gallery In the sport compact tuning world, the name Saturn is pretty obscure. While working at Yakuza Racing in Salt Lake City as the purchasing manager, occassionally I would get a poor soul who wandered into our shop looking for any availible accessories for his Saturn so that he could join the local car club with his buddies. About the only thing we could find for guys like this were a pair of $5 clear corner lights. Before now, the only Saturn that almost broke out of the conservative stereotype was the ION. This sporty coupe looked a bit more aggressive and had a uniquely contoured interior styling and suicide rear doors. Even so, the Saturn ION never really took to the sport compact tuning community. We have a feeling that things are about to change. In early 2006, Saturn is scheduled to release a sporty new roadster aimed at taking on the long running Mazda Miata and the new for 2006 Pontiac Solstice. Take away the badging and you would never guess it was a Saturn. And just as the Toyota MRS mimmicks the Porsche Boxter, and the new Pontiac Solstice follows the lines of the Jaguar XK, this hot new Saturn could almost pass for Cadillacs sporty roadster. The new 2007 Saturn Sky is powered by a 2.4 Liter four cylinder engine that puts out 170 horsepower and 164 Ft/lbs of torque at the lower end of the powerband at just 2400 rpms. As with all Saturn vehicles, the Sky focusses on being environmentally concious with low emissions. The engine in the Sky utilizes Saturns new variable timing technology. The transmission is complimented by a tight range short throw shifting assembly. As with all GM vehicles, the Saturn Sky also holds bragging rights to the highly developed On Star system. This allows youthful buyers access to On Stars safety features and roadside assistance made famous by thier higher end Cadillac vehicles. As for handling, the Sky is capable of carving through corners due to its light independent short long arm suspension with Bilstien monotube shocks. One thing is for sure, GMs trickle down technology comes down in full force to help the Saturn Sky lure new youthful buyers in the sport compact tuning market. The arrival of the Sky comes just in time for the upcoming sub $25k roadster market. At last we see Saturn becoming a class leader in something more exciting than just safety and value.
