2006 Mitsubishi EVO IX CLICK HERE FOR 2006 MITSUBISHI EVO IX GALLERY If you like to go fast and have fun, the 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX matters. Originally built to compete on the FIA rally circuit, the Evo is one of the most significant rally-inspired cars to sell in North America. As its legend grew, the Evo was launched in North America thanks in part to its racing success and its popularity through video driving games. When the Lancer Evolution debuted in North America in 2003, it did something extraordinary: it lived up to the hype. "The Evolution proved that Mitsubishi not only could compete with the best performance cars in the world, but that we could offer something most performance cars could not," said Rich Gilligan, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA). "Thrilling performance and outstanding value, combined." New for all Lancer Evolution models, the 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder DOHC intercooled-turbocharged engine with Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing and Electronic Control (MIVEC) is tuned to deliver maximum power across lower, middle- and higher parts of the rev band, generating 289 lb-ft of torque at 3500 rpm to offer a level of flexibility never before seen from the 4G63 engine. While peak horsepower has also increased to 286 bhp at 6500 rpm, there is now more power and response on tap on the left side of the tachometer, thanks to the combination of MIVEC, a revision in the turbocharger's compressor housing, and an improved muffler that also offers a throatier exhaust note. Aesthetic changes include a new nose with nostril intakes on either side of the main grille opening. These nostrils alone arent all that functional, but the front air dam extension on the underside of the nose is. This small piece of rubber, which stretches the width of the car, expands the low-pressure area underneath. Theres also a Gurney flap on the back of the rear wing that increases downforce by accelerating flow velocity under the wing. Bounce that tidbit off the next import hater who hassles you about the size of your wing and youre sure to get your ass kicked. Mitsubishi might save you the trouble since the product planners havent decided if these pieces will be standard on every EVO IX or sold only as accessories through dealers. .
