Once thought of as the leading European luxury automobile manufacturer in the United States, BMW has come a long way to tempt its way into the hearts of younger buyers with its cutting edge and stylish image. In the last few years, BMW has become a major force in the automotive styling industry with a combination of sporty new compact cars such as the Z and 3 Series, as well as its own branded line of "M" high performance vehicles.

The "M" Series takes tuning to a whole new level by offering BMW enthusiasts upgraded models of 3 and 5 series coupes, convertibles and sedans that come complete with upgraded aerodynamics as well as highly modified engines that produce up to 37% more horsepower than thier stock counterparts.

For those of us without the budget to afford the "M" series of BMW vehicles, many aftemarket body kit manufacturers have brought to the market several new ground effects kits to stylize stock BMW vehicles. From kits that replicate the "M" line, to high tech Japanese ground effects kits for ultra elitist vehicles like the new BMW 745i, Body Kitz has some great options for BMW enthusiasts looking for a bit more in the styling department.

OUR FAVORITE BODY KITS FOR THE BMW 3 SERIES:

For the BMW E46, our favorite body kit for this vehicle would have to go to Veilside with its Executive kit for the BMW E46 sedan. Veilside has gained recognition in the tuning community as an ultra elite styling company that makes both quality and looks come together in one package. The lines of the Executive kit are subtle yet striking, somewhat reminiscent of the BMW M3 body kit but with a Veilside flare of elegance. Although the Veilside kit costs around $1600 for the complete body kit, the workmanship and brand name of the Executive would be our first choice for BMW E46 owners who want the best for thier vehicle.

Our second pic for the BMW E46 would be the E46 M3 body kit, which replicates the look of the factory BMW E46 M3. Several companies including VIS Racing, Extreme Dimensions and even Sarona Design of NY make replicas of the E46. Although we have always been fond of the craftsmanship of Sarona's hand laid fiberglass, we would probably recommend the VIS kit at half the price.

As for the BMW E36, our favorite kit for this model would have to be the E46 M3 conversion kit by Extreme Dimensions. This body kit gives the E36 the updated look of the 1999+ BMW E46. The BMW E36 M3 kit is a good looking addition, but the E46 M3 Conversion gives the vehicle a completely new look that is somewhat in middleground as far as style between the two models. The E46 conversion helps to round out the boxy lines of its predecessor.

Here are some other body kits and ground effects kits that are hot sellers among our customers as well as some that are a hot trend in the import business:

  1. BMW E46 3 Series Buddyclub 2 Special Edition Body Kit- Botique ground effects manufacturer Buddyclub 2 out of Miami Florida released a special edition body kit for the E46 last year. Many customers love the Buddyclub 2 kits due to thier semi aggressive contemporary styling. Our opinion: We would recommend this kit to those looking to build a show use only car. Though the kit is extremely stylish, we have had customer comment on the rigitity of the kit for street use.
  2. BMW E46 3 Series CSL Kit- a new trend among Euro tuning and BMW clubs is the new BMW CSL kit. The CSL (Compact/sport/lightweight) 3 series is the European model of the BMW M3. The CSL has a unique front bumper that is somewhat like the M3 front bumper but with a more stout profile and a single sided hole sometimes used for an offset foglight or intake hole. The CSL kit uses a replica of the OEM CSL front bumper and sideskirts/rear bumper from the M3 kit.
  3. BMW E36 H Style Ground Effects kit- The H Style Lip Kit has been a hot seller for years in the E36 arena. The H Style body kit is simply a replica of the European Hamman body kit. This kit is affordable and good looking, keeping the E36 true to its stylish looks.

Tips:

Before you purchase your body kit or during shipping time, it is a good idea to make sure that you have a qualified installer for your body kit. If you are purchasing a fiberglass kit, it is especially important to find one that can specifically deal with the alterations that may be required to fit your kit correctly. Fiberglass kits in general need some finishing work during installation, such as sanding, primering, filling pinholes/gaps, trimming or shaving. Many times, our customers are charged more than they should if they use a shop who is not familiar with altering fiberglass because of the additional time involved.

Also be sure that whoever is recieving the kit inspects the contents of the box before they sign for it. Although most shipments are recieved undamaged, it is possible that your shipment may be. Because we are not in control of the freight company and thier policies, you must inspect the kit before you sign for it and if it is damaged either refuse the kit and note it on the delivery invoice so that we can file a claim for you.
